I have a question. I will be turning 21 on August 7 and would like some ideas on how to celebrate wisely. My boyfriend is a recovering coke addict, so I am afraid of going out and celebrating in the usual way someone would celebrate their 21st, so some ideas would be nice. Smile Thanks.

Well, having had the good fortune of dating a few leos in the past,
i have found as long as i kept them as the center of attention, in charge and treated their birthday like a national holiday all was fine.

Kidding aside, i think it wise for you to take precaution,, i have used many important occassions to disappear,, the addict knows the additional shame it will inflict by missing a big event, keeps me out a lot longer, unwilling to face up to the consequences of a monumental f-up...

past abscences include, my own surprise birthday party, my parents anniversary, and most recently my sisters fourth of july barbeque...

i might recommend taking a short trip, cabin b&b etc... i think, in my case, the bigger the expectation on my part,,,the more likely i was to disappear, --- i am assuming his finances are still in disarray since he is still new to recovery, so perhaps lessening the importance of a milestone birthday on him might not be a bad idea

reading your past posts, i am assuming that you birthday wish, if granted, months ago, would of been, what you have today....a boyfriend sober and present.

happy early birthday.

Bill

Dear Wendy,

I just wanted to say that I think it is great that you are thinking ahead as far as Stanley's recovery process. He is lucky to have such a positive influence in his corner !!! I hope whatever you do that you will enjoy it to the fullest. Smile

Thank you so musc Michelle. Smile

And Bill, you are SO SO SO right. I think for the past three years that has been what I asked for for my birthdays, for him to stay sober for once, and not only did I not get that but also got nothing period. I am just so thankful to have finally got it I don't even know what to do with myself. Thanks for the early Happy Birthday too! Smile Smile~
