Post subject: Rational Recovery - AVRT (Addictive Voice Recognition Techn?
I've been wondering about Addictive Voice Recognition Technique and Rational Recovery. Has anyone heard of this? Anyone ever tried it? I'm wondering about how it works. Does it work with crack? Strengths and weaknesses of the treatment model. Success rates? Personal experiences with it? Has anyone done any literature reviews?
I haven't done that much research on it so far...it seems like with other treatment models. You have to decide to quit, to abstain..be accountable...never look back...and you have to develop a plan for doing that. Just wondering.
Rational Recovery (RR) is a pioneer of not 12 steps based addiction treatment. I see a RR as a healthy alternative to a dominance of 12 steps groups. According to RR, they have highest recovery rate in the nation (based on their ads). RR concept is in favor of self recovery, without supportive groups.
I disagree with RR's too radical view on medication based treatment of addictions.
Personally, I am opposing the moderation in case of cocaine, crack cocaine addiction.
I disagree with the method of general addiction treatment model applied to cocaine, crack cocaine addiction.
Is this working? I am assuming it does. They have been in the "business" since 1992.

Gene, Thanks for your response. Let me make sure I understand what you are saying.

Are you saying that with cocaine/crack addiction moderation does not work, it has to be all or nothing?

What problems with the RR model do you see, as applied to crack/cocaine addiction?
Can you point me in the direction of any literature reviews in support or not of this model? I know the book and the website have literature review references in support...I guess I want to know the what's and whys of any opposing view points...especially for crack addiction.

I disagree with not just RR, but common practice of applying addiction treatment model to cocaine/crack addiction.

I see it, in the difference of reward mechanism of cocaine/crack, other words addictive properties of cocaine/crack compare to other addictive substances, with the exception of amphetamines.

Anyhow, I think it is definitely worth of trying, it's an inexpensive alternative.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm encouraged that this approach makes sense to him. It is all up to him, I know...but it makes me feel better to be educated. Part of my healing process. I noticed on the adds another approach that seemed similar. Wonder too if you have done any research or know anything about it. It is an add for Nomoreaddiction.com by James Ronin??? I forget the name of the actual program in the add, and I'm only on Chapter 4 in the Rational Recovery Book, but still interested in any insights you or anyone else have.
I would be sceptical about last one. I never herd about James Ronin, I don't know his area of expertise. His website doesn't provide any statement about his personal qualifications. Web site doesn't appeal to be a trustworthy case.
