Post subject: Why I work the 12 steps Reply with quote

Hi
I am an addict

Why do I work the 12 steps?

Because it is the only tool I have found to keep me clean and sober , away for all mind altering sustances.
More than that I have a better life because my attitude and demeaner is better. I have time in the day for me, to help me have time for others. I no longer resent silly things or people ;I usuall resented for one reason or another.By putting the program of The 12 steps in my life , first , everything else is blossoming because of.
It was not easy to do so , it went completely against my nature . I had to get up , and start listerning to the people who had gone before me.
Now I go to meetings, I have a home group I attend regularly, I do service ,I have a sponsor ,who has a sponsor and has worked the steps, I read the big book , I call my fellow addicts/alkies , I have gratitude , I reconize my resentments and I pray to a Higher Power to guide me and for a clean and sober day.
These simple things keep my clean and sober and I am today .
Thats why I work the steps because it works for me and i needed somthing to work for me .

I work those steps too. They are working for me. I have tried other things and this is the path that got me free of that horrible addiction.

It is a simple program that leads to a simple life.

I used to work steps, than I got introduced to step 13, you know "spiritual purification" by oldcamers. I was sexually abused several times by man 2-3 older than I am.
Lord, it was powerful reminder never ever go to those meetings. It was the main reason to stay clean and never see people like you. Brenna, if you have heart, tell every women in your group to get out and never look back. But, I doubt it. You are the part of this "Old School" *censored f-->ing *censored female d-g.

I am sorry for what you go through.
Did you reported this to the authorities?

I am sorry to hear what happened to you.

I can only think that the people who did this to you were not working the program of the 12 steps every day . They had found an eaiser softer way for them selves. They were not doing the suggested things and had altera motives for being at meetings.

Anyone who thoroughly follows this path would not have done such a bad thing.

Not everyone at meetings is the same as the person you meet. The world is full of different types , some find scams and routes to fill their own desires in the various places others find happiness , unfortunatly this will always be .

Those who do not recover are people who can not or will not completely give them selves to this simple program, usually men and women who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves.

To tap into another persons weakness is dishonest to the bone.

Yours in fellowship

Agreed. Sober1 has responded with reason and clear thinking. I can tell.
I don't know what being an addict is like or anything even close to what you went through Italianbombina but I agree there will always be people who attain a certain level of power but chose not to ignore the responsibility that goes along with it. I hope these people get what they deserve one day for doing that to you.
