Hi everyone. I am new to this site. What prompted me to join is a question of how to keep joy and a postive outlook in your life after quitting using drugs. I was a crack user for about 3 years. My husband also. We both maintained jobs through those years but ended up almost foreclosing on our house until a family member came to our aide. That was last January. We gave up cigarette and crack smoking almost 8 months ago. I am so very grateful for the progress we have made, it is overwhelming. But sometimes looking at the distruction we caused in our lives, it feels too huge to fix somedays. I hated the person I was when I was addicted, but sometimes I miss her. She was fun and happy. How can I change this feeling and have something to look forward to in life.

Good for you and your husband.
I need to quit smoking, that's for sure!

Yes, what our addiction leaves behind,
can be so overwhelming at times.
You just have to take it day by day.

Everything works itself out....
even if it doesn't seem that way,
or, it's not happening fast enough for us.

Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is never promised us,
today has enough worries of it's own!

What you're feeling, in my opinion,
isn't something you can will to change,
but, rather, something you need to be patient with,
until those feelings change...and they will.

Don't dwell on what you miss,
dwell on all that you have gained and stand to gain!

Life never goes back to the way it was before addiction.
You're moving forward and starting a new chapter in your life.

Just keep fighting the good fight,
and Thank G0D it's not any worse.

Wishing you and your husband,
continued success in your recoveries!

Welcome to the site! Welcome

Peace, Love & Strength,
Lynn

Thank you Lynn for your words of encouragement. Thank you dragongirl for relating. I see you are new also. I am home sick with the flu, so I have some time I don't normally to connect with people that are maybe going through the same things I am. Have you quit using, if so for how long? How do you get through the hard times? I honestly don't know where I see myself in 5 years.

Congratulations to both you and your husband!

I agree with Lynn as well, don't look so much at what you have lost, but what you stand to gain through sobriety. You have already been down that path "using", and you know where it takes you, EVERYWHERE you truly never wanted to be ..

Doesn't sound silly to me ... I love those "pamper ME" days !!!

Welcome Newhope62! You have found a great place for support...

Strength and Peace to all ...

Michelle
