I wanted to know how you guys felt or thought about people who use cocciane for Recreation, or on ocassion. Never evoloing in to abuse or habbit. I think we all have friends that never got into coccaine hard core, but took part in ocassional group activies.

I dont know why I wish to know, but curious. Do you guys feel its ok for recreational use? I guess it will be hard for us addicts to answer this, because we couldnt stay away from it. But I know many people that can and do. and don't really see it has a bad thing.

Actually I'm curious about non-users too. whats yuor opion. I know must of us are here because of a problem facing us, or someone close, so answers might be abit biais. Another factor might be age. I am a younger sud. 22 years of age, so it is probaly alot more common as reacreational use with people in my age group.
I dont think recreational use with older people sits in the same boat fo me as being ok.
Its seems these people know when to say no, and reach a point in life when the social, ocassionaly, usage times would slimder or stop.
so. what do yuo think it is ok? is it ok for the younger age group to social try it, apoised to an older-range group of people.

"to each, his or her own" as long as you're not hurting me or anyone else... it's none of my business to say what someone ought to do or not do.. A good friend told me there is nothing worse than a "converted" anything. People think that it is their sole purpose in life to tell people how to live their lives. I despise those who do. Just because i tried something and failed what gives me right or anyone else the right to tell someone that they will fail...not my gig.

I think other people should have the right to tell someone to stop using cocaine. It is never "OK" to do cocaine no matter the situation. Do you think the government makes these laws to help the users. The prohibition of cocaine is for the safety of the general public. No one cares how much you do cocaine unless it interferes with them and since you live and work with other people your at risk of hurting someone. It doesn't have to be on a coked out physically abusing rampage after doing a little bit too much, it can also be its effects on your friends and family. It is the worst feeling in the world to know someone you love is doing cocaine. So to answer the first post no, I do not think it is OK to do illegal drugs at any time.

For whatever it is worth, my opinion is that using cocaine recreationally is a he|l of a risk. Is the fun worth the addiction? From what I have seen it is not.

Regarding the statement you made concerning the government.. Since the history of alcohol abuse and drug abuse how good are the results from intervention by the government in detering alcohol abuse and drug abuse? Did the war on drugs really do anything to slow down crack prodution or stop the creation of meth labs? I think any reasonably minded person could see the government did nothing to deter drug abuse or alcoholism. "Just say no" is a nice slogan, but drug abuse is at an all-time high. How do you explain...? My point is... why use the same strategy over and over again that has proven over and over again that it doesn't work. Insanity, yes? What people demand they'll find a way to get it.

There is no such a thing as a recreational use of illegal substances. Consequences of such a "recreational" use can result in a criminal sentence that can include jail or prison time, punitive fines, probation, mandatory treatment programs, and other penalties. According to government statistics, approximately ten to thirty percent of all inmates in the jail or prison system are drug offenders.
Quote:
Illegal drug possession is defined as possession of any illegal controlled substance or unauthorized prescription medication. Illegal drugs can include many “street drugs” such as marijuana, cocaine, heroine, methamphetamine, LSD, MDMA (as known as ecstasy), and other drugs of abuse. Illegal drug possession also includes possession of any precursor materials or equipment that can be used in drug cultivation and production. Illegal drug possession can include possession of drug paraphernalia as well.

Do not forget the government is consist of people. In democratic society, government is not an antagonist structure to people will. Law is made by democratic election. If you live in democratic country you are free to migrate to other country, which suits your personal need. However if you decided to stay in the country of your choice you ought to compel with the Law, otherwise you will be punished by the law.

Even if is Drug War may be ineffective strategy, I do not see any alternative on the horizon pretty soon. As a matter of fact, most of the enemies of Drug War are looking to "soft" current drug laws, but they do not care about lowering drug abuse.

I think it has to do with a person's chemical makeup, their childhood life, and people who affected them in their life wether good or bad. Also, current stresses and how a person's uses their coping skills to deal with those stresses.

(I am not saying that a person HAS TO or WILL fit into one of those items above, but it does raise the percentage of a person's chance to become addicted.)

ANd then there are the people who really did have a great life and still do, but they still got hooked! Why? Becuase I think that with this type of person when they did try coke/drugs the chemical just fit very nicely into their new home in the brain.

And all the people that i knew who used coke were the type who could do anything. They could always succeed and nothing would ever stop them. (I am sure you all have met this personality type.) These people are usually very successfull and are able to have control over their mind. If they didnt want to do something they didn't and they were able to just stop amd never think again about it. It's like that person who bums a cig every 6 months. He smoke 1 and doesn't think of it again. Then around another 6 months they just smoke another.

Where as with me i picked a cig up ansd was hooked.
I can just look at something and become addicted. I used to think that it was because i had no willpower. But i realize that i have willpower, but for evil and not for good. I have so much willpower that i didn't start really slow with coke and progress up to more and more, I went from no coke in my life to coke every day! But i do know that because i suffer from depression it is much easier to become an addict.
I knew the first time i bought it that i was doing it not for fun but to self-medicate. So i had set myself up for this. And now i have to try and take that willpower and use it for "good" by harnassing it and making it work so i can stay off of it. Hasn't happend yet, but i am hoping it will soon.

But anywhoo, these are just MY OPINIONS, and i am interested in reading everyone elses! Very Happy

I don't think anyone can sustain long-term 'recreational' use.
Most of the recreational users I know are quite young and the ones my age or older are either addicts or have very infrequent binges.

Well, I wish I could say that I don't know anybody who uses every now and again... but I actually do. I have a very very close friend with an amazing soul. He has his head screwed on on SO tightly you wouldn't believe. We call him the "voice of reason". I livr with him, he's a hard worker, electrician by trade, earns very good money, is an up and coming DJ with a bright future. He will do cocaine every now and again for recreational use - I cannot see anything in his mannerisms or personality to suggest that his level of cocaine use is affecting him in a negative way. He is the most delightful peson I know, I can even feel this guys ora as he walks by me or sits close to me... he's the deepest thinker I know and is more focused than any1 ive ever met.... using cocaine when he does is not doing him any harm - and he is living evidence of this....Could it be a one off?

I do not mean in any way come to early conclusion, but just for instance: many people with schizophrenia seems to be exceptionally logical in early stage of the disease, they can be easily called "voice of reason". Not to mention many personality disorders in first"surface" look may be masked by exceptional intelligence; however, professional evaluation may reveal some moments that had been concealed.
Unfortunately, everyone is affected by using drugs -- one way or another -- on personal ground or through the legal system.
With time -- masking effect got worn...

Hmm..well I have known him a fair while, I live with him, I am around him every day, I also consider myself an intelligent person and if I ever saw any signs of occasional cocaine use having a negative effect on my friend I would tell him straight up... until this happens I am a strong believer in being able to use cocaine for recreational use. My friend has never been addicted to cocaine - maybe once every 2 months or so he will get a G, use it, share it with whoever wants any and will never go out of his way to get any more. His use is sensible and controlled. I was addicted last year, you are welcome to read my account in the addiction forum titled "getting very out of hand"... after going through what I went through, I am now out the other side able to pass the dvd case to the next person because I know how sh*t the using road is... I think I have used maybe 4 or 5 times since Christmas, and even then was only 1 line because it felt so crap, each time I have done it I have felt I was wasting my time, and each time I will go longer and longer without using. It has been about 4 months since I had a line, I no longer have a problem and I'm smart enough not to get myself sucked back into it because I value my life and all the things I am now achieving as a result of kicking the habit....
